Visit Treffort

Medieval hilltop village

Treffort established the junction between the plain of the Bresse and the Revermont. It is a village of character that has preserved its medieval plan and its wine-growing houses; Its streets are marked by a number of interesting fountains. The story of Treffort is quoted in books from the year 974 (Trefortium) with the construction of the first strong house, but there is no doubt that the site was inhabited well before, especially during the Gallo-Roman period. Accroché aux premiers chaînons du Jura, Treffort is a perched village that has kept its medieval plan.
